Experience the icons of Peru and Bolivia in 10 days, from the Inca heartland of Cusco and Machu Picchu to the sacred waters of Titicaca and the heights of La Paz.

Some countries are best understood together. Peru and Bolivia share the high Andes, the vast blue expanse of Lake Titicaca, and a living Andean culture stretching back thousands of years — and this 10-day journey weaves the greatest of both into one seamless adventure, from the lost city of the Incas to the sacred island where their sun god was born.Your journey begins in Lima, where a city tour takes in the Colonial Centre, the Plaza Mayor, and the cloisters and catacombs of San Francisco, closing with sweeping Pacific views from Miraflores. From there, fly to Cusco, the golden Inca capital raised on stone foundations, and explore the Temple of the Sun at Qoricancha alongside the mighty ruins of Sacsayhuamán, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay. A full day in the Sacred Valley follows — the market of Pisac, a buffet lunch in Urubamba, and the towering terraces of Ollantaytambo — before the scenic train carries you to Machu Picchu, the UNESCO-listed citadel that somehow still exceeds every expectation, with a guided tour and lunch included. The journey then climbs onto the altiplano along the Sun Route to Puno, pausing at the "Sistine Chapel of South America" in Andahuaylillas, the temple of Raqchi, and the La Raya pass at 4,335 metres. From here, Lake Titicaca becomes the bridge between two countries: cross into Bolivia at Copacabana, visit the Sanctuary of the Dark Virgin, and sail to the Island of the Sun — mythical birthplace of the Inca sun god — to see the Pilkakaina temple and climb the Yumani steps to the Fountain of Youth.Bolivia's extraordinary highland capital, La Paz, follows, spilling down a canyon at over 3,600 metres. A city tour takes in the Valley of the Moon, the world's longest cable-car network, the Killi Killi viewpoint, the historic centre, and the mysterious stalls of the Witches' Market. Beyond the city lies one of the continent's great archaeological enigmas: Tiahuanaco, a pre-Inca civilisation dating to 1500 B.C., home to the famous Gate of the Sun, the Akapana pyramid, and the Kalasasaya temple.Recrossing into Peru, the journey ends where the highlands are at their most hauntingly beautiful — at Sillustani, on a peninsula ringed by the Umayo lagoon, where the towering funerary chullpas have stood since 600 A.D.Throughout, this is travel made effortless. Private guides bring each ruin, ritual, and landscape to life; comfortable transfers and border crossings are handled for you; and every ticket and handpicked hotel is arranged from arrival to farewell.Peru and Bolivia are lands of enigmas — cities in the clouds, a sacred island in the world's highest lake, and gateways carved by civilisations we still don't fully understand. This journey brings them together as they were meant to be experienced: side by side, at an unhurried pace, with every detail attended to.
